Why enter the food composition of a product?

The food composition is the list of ingredients that includes all the elements that go into making a recipe and that are present in the final product.

In Melba, the food composition of a recipe is automatically calculated according to that of the different ingredients that compose it. No need to enter long lists and risk errors, melba automatically constitutes the composition of the final product in order to generate labels very simply.

It may be necessary to enter the food composition at item level. Indeed, a large majority of items sold to the consumer (in supermarkets) are themselves recipes, which include a composition displayed on the packaging. However, it is not compulsory for certain products such as fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, cheeses, certain oils, etc.

How to fill in the composition of an article?

The list of ingredients that make up the product is established in descending order of their importance in terms of weight or volume .

To add composition to an article:

  1. Make sure that the allergens are well informed in the allergen insert of the article.
  2. In the ingredient field, carefully copy the composition information displayed on your product:
    - Separate each ingredient with a comma.
    - There cannot be an empty name or two consecutive commas
    - Each allergen or allergenic ingredient must be entered in capitals and without accents
    - Each open parenthesis must be closed
    - All formatting is removed and any word that is not entirely in capitals is reduced to a tiny
Example for Butter with salt crystals:
Butter (cream of pasteurized MILK, lactic ferments), salt
  3. Validate by clicking on Apply
  • For each element, the composition is built using the commercial name of the product or the name if it is empty.
  • For each element, its own composition is added between parentheses after the trade name if the latter is not empty.
  • The trade name of the product is capitalized if the product contains allergens.
  • The representative percentage of the weight of the item in the gross weight of the recipe of the item is added after the commercial name.
